Evans Chebet has been named LG/Sports Journalist Association of Kenya (SJAK) sports personality for the month of April.
This comes after his KSh17.5 million win at the Boston Marathon on April 18.
Chebet stamped his presence as a force to be reckoned with in athletics after clinching first place with a time of 2:06:51 seconds in the men’s race in Boston.
Chebet said he was delighted to go home with the award for the first time. “It was such a great feeling to go to Boston and win especially after failing to finish in 2018,” said Chebet.
“It’s also a great pleasure to be named the best sports personality of the month in a potentially competitive month of sport in April,” Chebet concluded.
The Boston Marathon is the world’s oldest annual marathon and ranks as one of the world’s best-known road racing events. It is one of six World Marathon Majors.
In September 2019, after finishing in the top six of every marathon he had finished, Chebet won his first international race, the Buenos Aires Marathon, in a time of 2:05:00.
The year after, in March 2020, he won the Lake Biwa Marathon at 2:07:29.
In December of the same year, Chebet lowered his personal best by exactly two minutes and set a world leader when he won the 2020 Valencia Marathon at 2:03:00, kicking down Lawrence Cherono and winning by four seconds.
