Motorists heading to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) should expect delays after a section of Mombasa Road at Cabanas was temporarily closed for construction works.
The affected stretch is on the Mombasa Road (A8) section at the Cabanas Eastern Bypass off-ramp, on the side serving traffic towards the airport.
The closure began on Thursday, September 17, and is expected to remain in place until October 22, according to the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA).
KeNHA said the works are needed to allow the construction of a box drain along the affected section of the highway.
Motorists travelling towards JKIA from the Eastern Bypass will be directed through a designated diversion lane.
Traffic marshals and police officers will be stationed at the site to guide motorists and help keep traffic moving.
KeNHA has asked drivers to follow the temporary traffic arrangements and comply with directions from traffic officers and marshals.
The authority said normal traffic operations would resume once the construction work is completed.
The closure adds to a series of recent disruptions on Nairobi’s major roads.
Motorists on Waiyaki Way have also faced heavy traffic following the temporary closure of the overpass at the ABC Place–Red Hill Road junction.
The Waiyaki Way disruption was linked to maintenance and construction works on the Nairobi Expressway near the Westlands exit. Motorists leaving the expressway have been directed to join the lower A8 road along Waiyaki Way.
With both corridors carrying heavy traffic, motorists have been advised to allow extra time for their journeys and follow temporary traffic signs and instructions on the ground.
