Peter Okidi has arrived at Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) FC with a clear mission: to help restore the club’s status as a genuine title contender.
The newly appointed assistant coach says he wants to bring silverware to the Bankers after several seasons in which the club has struggled to challenge consistently for major honours.
Okidi joins KCB from newly promoted Mombasa United, taking up a role alongside head coach Robert Matano as the club prepares for the 2026–27 Kenyan Premier League season.
KCB ended the previous campaign in seventh place with 48 points from 34 matches, a finish that fell short of expectations for one of the league’s well-resourced clubs. The team has since strengthened its squad as it looks to mount a stronger challenge.
Speaking after his unveiling, Okidi said KCB stood out despite interest from other clubs because of its football structure and long-term ambition.
“To be honest I had several offers but I decided to come to KCB because of all the teams I assessed, KCB had the structure I wanted and the environment which is good for someone who wants to grow in football,” he said.
The former Mombasa United coach believes success will depend on collective effort rather than individual talent. He said the backing of the club’s management, players and technical staff would be key if KCB are to end their wait for trophies.
“Every coach wants to win something at the end of the season and I am here to make history and win something at the end of the season,” Okidi said.
He also spoke positively about the squad he has inherited, describing the players as ambitious, disciplined and eager to improve.
“The players I have met here are hungry for success. They are organised and willing to learn, so with discipline and teamwork I believe they will give us something at the end of the season,” he said.
Okidi reserved praise for Matano and the rest of the coaching staff, saying they had welcomed him into a collaborative environment focused on improving both the team and individual coaches.
“They are very supportive people, very humble people who are willing to share and help you grow. Since my arrival they have been very hospitable,” he added.
As pre-season preparations continue, expectations will rise around whether KCB can turn renewed optimism into results on the pitch. Okidi’s arrival reflects the club’s ambition to compete at the top of Kenyan football, but success will ultimately be judged by performances once the new season begins.
