The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has issued a public warning after fraudsters created fake social media accounts posing as the agency, raising concerns over the growing use of online impersonation to target unsuspecting Kenyans.
In a scam alert released on Friday, the authority urged members of the public to exercise caution and rely only on its verified communication channels when seeking services, making enquiries or lodging complaints.
“NTSA cautions members of the public from engaging fake TikTok, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts impersonating the Authority,” the agency said in a statement.
The authority stressed that it is not linked to the fraudulent accounts and warned that sharing personal information with people operating them could expose users to scams or identity theft.
NTSA said all official communication is conducted only through its verified digital platforms and customer service channels. It encouraged Kenyans to confirm the authenticity of any account claiming to represent the authority before responding to messages or requests.
“The Authority communicates ONLY through its official channels,” NTSA said, listing its verified X account, official website, Facebook page, email address, WhatsApp channel, customer care numbers, SMS service and YouTube account.
The agency also advised the public never to disclose sensitive details such as national identification numbers, passwords or banking information to unknown individuals online.
Anyone who comes across suspicious accounts impersonating NTSA has been urged to avoid engaging with them, block the accounts and report them directly to the relevant social media platform.
The warning comes as online impersonation scams continue to rise in Kenya, with criminals increasingly creating fake government and corporate accounts to trick people into revealing personal information or paying for services that do not exist.
Government agencies have repeatedly urged citizens to verify official communication channels before responding to online requests, particularly where personal data or financial transactions are involved.
NTSA said members of the public can continue to access its services and submit complaints through its official website and recognised customer service platforms. The authority added that protecting road users includes ensuring they receive accurate information from trusted and verified sources.
