President William Ruto has assented to three significant pieces of legislation at State House in Nairobi.
The laws signed on Friday, May 29, 2026, are the Equalisation Fund Appropriations Act, the National Disaster Risk Management Act, and the Forest Conservation and Management (Amendment) Act.
The Equalisation Fund Appropriations Act is expected to facilitate the allocation of resources aimed at improving basic services in marginalised regions across the country.
The fund has historically been used to support access to water, roads, health facilities, and electricity in underserved communities.
The National Disaster Risk Management Act is expected to enhance Kenya’s preparedness and response mechanisms during emergencies such as floods, droughts, fires, and other disasters.
The law establishes a more structured framework for disaster coordination and management, a move seen as critical amid increasing climate-related emergencies in the region.
The Forest Conservation and Management (Amendment) Act introduces changes aimed at strengthening forest protection and sustainable environmental management.
The legislation aligns with Kenya’s broader climate action and conservation agenda as the country continues efforts to increase forest cover and combat environmental degradation.
