Pictures of a man dubbed “Towel man” is making rounds on social media where he is observed minding his own business in a queue waiting to cast his vote, while wrapped in a brown cotton towel amidst the cold Nairobi weather.
Towel man said the reason for his odd outfit was because he was counting on wearing the clothes he had washed the night before, but they didn’t dry in time for him to use them in the early hours of the morning.
He then decided to rock a towel instead topped with a black shirt that now has him trending.
“Okay najua watu wengi wamekua wakijiuliza kwa nini na nimeona imetrend, na mimi mwenywe hata sikua najua imetrend. So, ilihappen jana usiku, nilifua ngua zangu zote. Na venye unajua, weather yenye iko sikuhizi, hazikauki. So kuenda kwa uzi asubuhi kitu saa kumi, nikapata bado ziko na maji.
“Kitu yenye ilifanya niende na towel ni ju sikua na nguo ingine kabisa kabisa. So niliamua tu nichukue towel nikimbie haraka haraka nipige, before watu hawajaamka. Ju nilikua nadhani ntapiga tu na giza but nimefikiwa kitu 6:00,” he said in an interview with Rick Be Tv.

Kenyans on Twitter, however, had mixed reactions to the man’s choice of attire, with some applauding his determination and others claiming that he is only seeking attention.
In 2017, a man made headlines for lining up to vote while eating Githeri, a typical Kenyan meal of maize and legumes, primarily beans of any kind mixed and cooked together, earning him the name “Githeri man.”
Meanwhile, in Kisumu, a voter identified as Silas Odhiambo was seen carrying a loaf of bread in the voting queue at Karanda Primary School.
He referred to himself as Boflo man as he swallowed a massive chunk of bread.
