Kenya Kwanza presidential candidate, Deputy President, William Ruto, voted early on Tuesday, August 9, at the Kosachei Primary School polling place in Sugoi.
Ruto and his wife, Rachel, arrived at the location and after a quick prayer in which they requested calm and peace at the polls, the pair then made their way to vote.
Together with Ruto, they then completed the 6-step voting process before leaving.
Shortly after, Ruto, in a press conference, voiced optimism for the country’s continued calm and said that he anticipated independent voting.
“It makes me feel great that this morning is election day and we are here to cast our votes after many months of campaigning and engaging with Kenyans. We favour a calm procedure,” said Ruto.
“The selection process for Kenya’s next president is currently in progress. All voters are kindly requested to complete this activity and cast thoughtful, peaceful ballots. I have faith that Kenyans will make the best decision. “
Ruto asked the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), which is aware of the crucial role it plays in the process, to lead without using force.
“The IEBC is an autonomous organization, and,” he stated, “we expect that you will carry out this process respecting your mandate and we wish you well as you undertake this tremendous effort.”
Other leaders, including Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei, accompanied Ruto to cast his ballot.
