Edwin Sifuna has alleged that Senator Godfrey Osotsi was violently attacked in Kisumu earlier today under unclear circumstances.
In a statement shared on X, the Nairobi Senator and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General said he had spoken to Osotsi’s team, confirming that the lawmaker sustained injuries during the incident.
“I have spoken to Senator Osotsi’s team and confirmed that he was viciously attacked and injured in Kisumu earlier today when he went to get a haircut,” Sifuna stated.
Senator Airlifted to Nairobi for Treatment
According to Sifuna, the injured Senator is currently being transferred to Nairobi for urgent medical attention.
“The Senator is being airlifted to Nairobi as we speak,” he added, indicating the seriousness of the injuries sustained during the attack.
Details surrounding the allegations remain unclear as authorities are yet to speak on the matter.
The ODM SG has strongly condemned the incident, urging law enforcement agencies to act decisively against those responsible.
“Whilst we wait further details, I strongly condemn this attack and ask the Police for immediate action on those responsible,” he said.
The incident comes amid hightened political tensions and wrangles within ODM with the likes of Osotsi allied to Sifuna-led faction opposing the party’s association with President Ruto’s ruling party UDA together with the likes of Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Siaya Governor James Orengo.
