Fresh political tensions have rocked the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) after Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai publicly claimed there was an orchestrated plan to remove Secretary General Edwin Sifuna from his position.
In a strongly worded statement shared on social media, Alai accused a section of ODM leadership of alledly manipulating party processes and agendas, raising questions about internal cohesion within the formerly Raila Odinga-led party.
Alleged Plot to Remove Sifuna
According to Alai, the original intention of the National Delegates Convention (NDC) was to oust Sifuna from his influential role as Secretary General. However, he claims the agenda was altered midway under unclear circumstances.
“ODM leaders seem to be playing here, and it’s just not right. The original intent of NDC was to remove Edwin Sifuna from the SG position,” Alai stated.
He further alleged that the NDC was later converted into a “Special NDC,” effectively removing Sifuna’s ouster from the agenda.
“Somewhere along the way, someone changed the NDC to Special NDC, and the removal of Sifuna was taken off the agenda,” he added.
Alai also took issue with the party’s National Executive Council (NEC), claiming its resolutions to remove Sifuna were overturned by powerful individuals within ODM.
“NEC’s resolutions removing Sifuna were rejected by those who seem to have made Sifuna their attack dog as they engage UDA,” he claimed.
The MCA suggested that Sifuna, alongside Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, are being strategically shielded despite alleged efforts to destabilize the party.
Allegations of Political Strategy Against Ruto
In a more explosive claim, Alai alleged that ODM could be using Sifuna as a political tool to exert pressure on President William Ruto.
“From what I can predict or gather from their behaviour, ODM is using Sifuna to blackmail President Ruto,” he wrote.
He contrasted the treatment of Sifuna and Babu Owino with that of other party members, including Godfrey Osotsi and Caleb Kibagendi, who he says faced disciplinary action.
Alai’s remarks come at a time when ODM is grappling with internal divisions and positioning ahead of the 2027 General Election.
His allegations, though unverified, highlight growing concerns about factionalism within one of Kenya’s leading political parties.
“The schemers here think they are smart, but they will know that nobody is smarter than H. E. William Samoei Ruto,” Alai concluded.
