The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a traffic advisory to motorists ahead of the highly anticipated 2026 WRC Safari Rally set to take place from March 12 to March 15 in Naivasha.
In a statement, the Authority warned that heavy traffic is expected on major highways leading to the rally venue as thousands of fans travel from Nairobi and other parts of the country to witness the global motorsport spectacle.
KeNHA said the advisory is aimed at easing congestion, ensuring smooth movement of vehicles and maintaining road safety during the four-day event.
Truck Drivers Warned Against Illegal Parking
The highways authority cautioned truck drivers against parking along undesignated areas on the highways.
According to KeNHA Director General Luka Kimeli, any truck drivers found violating this directive risk immediate arrest.
The Authority emphasized that proper parking discipline will play a key role in reducing congestion and maintaining order along key transport corridors during the rally period.
Alternative Routes for Motorists
To help motorists avoid expected traffic build-up, KeNHA has outlined several alternative routes that drivers can use when travelling to rally destinations around Naivasha and neighboring towns.
The scenic route will guide motorists from Nairobi through Rironi and Flyover (Magumu) before proceeding to Njambini, Ol Kalou and eventually connecting through Dundori to Lanet.
The adventure route will take drivers from Nairobi through Rironi and Naivasha before proceeding to Engineer, Ol Kalou, Dundori and finally Lanet.
Motorists using the Thika trail will travel from Nairobi through Thika to Magumu, then Ol Kalou, Dundori and Lanet.
Another option is the Suswa shortcut which directs drivers from Nairobi through Ngong to Suswa before connecting to Narok and eventually reaching Nakuru.
KeNHA also highlighted key areas expected to experience increased traffic flow including Mau Summit, Thika–Magumu, Dundori and the Ngong–Suswa corridor.
