Search For 14-Year-Old Boy Swept Away by Overflowing Nairobi River at Nyayo Highrise

Red Cross

A tragic drowning incident was reported yesterday at approximately 10:56 a.m. at Nyayo Highrise along Mbagathi Way after a 14-year-old boy was swept away by the overflowing Nairobi River.

According to initial reports, the minor was carried off by strong currents following heavy rains that caused the river to burst its banks, posing significant danger to residents living near the waterway.

Search and Retrieval Operations Ongoing

Search and retrieval efforts resumed today, led by the Kenya Red Cross Aqua Team in collaboration with other emergency response agencies.

Rescue teams are combing sections of the river in a coordinated operation aimed at locating the missing boy.

Authorities have urged members of the public to keep a safe distance from the riverbanks to allow rescue teams to carry out their work efficiently.

Safety Warning to Residents

The incident has once again highlighted the dangers posed by swollen rivers during the rainy season.

Residents living near riparian areas are advised to remain vigilant, especially during periods of heavy rainfall when water levels can rise rapidly and currents become unpredictable.

Emergency responders continue to monitor the situation as the search operation progresses.
