The Kenyan transport industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of businessman and Easy Coach founder, Azym Dossa.

Easy Coach management confirmed the former Managing Director’s demise on Thursday, February 26, describing him as a visionary leader whose dedication and leadership shaped the company into one of Kenya’s most trusted long-distance transport brands.

“Mr Dossa’s vision, leadership and dedication shaped Easy Coach from its earliest days and left a lasting legacy that will always be part of who we are as a company,” the management said in an official statement.

From Humble Beginnings to a Transport Giant

Founded in 2003, Easy Coach opened its doors with a maiden trip to Kisumu on December 18 of that year, carrying just one paying passenger. At the time, the company operated a modest fleet of three buses.

Dossa steered the company toward remarkable growth.

Within three years, Easy Coach had expanded to 15 destinations, marking the beginning of its dominance in Kenya’s long-distance travel market.

Today, the company serves over 30 destinations across the country and operates more than 50 modern buses, standing tall among the most reliable transport brands in Kenya.

Impressive Operational Footprint

According to Superbrands, Easy Coach transports approximately 1.2 million passengers annually within its network. In addition, the company handles about 1.3 million parcel and letter shipments each year.

The firm employs over 1,000 staff members, further cementing its role as a key player in Kenya’s transport and logistics sector.

Dossa’s experience, including his tenure as Chief Financial Officer at the now-defunct Akamba Bus Company, significantly influenced his leadership style and strategic expansion approach.

Industry Leaders and Kenyans Mourn

The Federation of Public Transport Sector (FPTS) led Kenyans in mourning the towering businessman, describing him as a pioneer who elevated professionalism and service standards in the public transport industry.

“FPTS mourns the passing of Mr. Azym Dossa, founder of Easy Coach and a true pioneer in Kenya’s transport industry. His leadership and vision elevated standards of professionalism and service in the Industry. Our heartfelt condolences to his family and the entire Easy Coach team,” the federation said in a condolence message.

Many Kenyans have since taken to social media to remember Dossa as a mentor, father figure, and transformational leader whose vision reshaped long-distance travel in Kenya.

From a single trip with one passenger to a nationwide transport network, Azym Dossa’s journey reflects resilience, innovation, and unwavering commitment to excellence.

His death marks the end of an era but his legacy continues to steer Easy Coach and inspire Kenya’s transport industry for generations to come.
