The transport company (Easy Coach) sent a notice to all branch managers dated August 11 instructing the immediate ban of fish transportation whether accompanied or as parcels. They, however, didn’t clearly mention why the ban was instated but pointed out that it caused ‘heartache’ to its customers.

After the ban, travellers opted for other transport systems with transport companies taking advantage of the publicity.

ENA coach sent a post stating that they were willing to risk transporting any and all aquatic companions a traveller may have. Directly hinting at the statement released by Easy Coach.

Nyamira Coach and other Nissans have seen an influx in customers after Easy Coach placed the ban. According to citizens, most of its customers are from either the Western or Nyanza region. Hence Kenyans took the ban as a direct jab at the Luo community.

Lifting of the Ban

Shortly after the ban was put up and customers started seeking other transportation services, the company rescinded the ban. They issued a statement mentioning that the ban was initiated after customers filed complaints mentioning the poorly packed fish products. They complained of the fish contaminating their accompanied luggage hence necessitating the ban.

Additionally, the statement mentions that the company has lifted the ban. Allowing for the transportation of fish products provided they are well packaged and would not interfere with other people’s luggage.

The ban instated by Easy Coach riled up Kenyans with many claiming that the ban would lead to a loss in customers until they lift it.
