Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces and president Museveni’s son General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has escalated his online feud with Kenyan journalist and CNN international correspondent Larry Madowo, claiming he has blocked him on social media for being a “betrayer” East Africa.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Muhoozi said his decision to block Madowo was deliberate and rooted in what he described as disloyalty to the region.
“I blocked @LarryMadowo for one simple reason. It’s best said in Kiswahili. He is a true Msaliti,” Muhoozi wrote.
The remark comes amid heightened post-election tensions in Uganda and days after Muhoozi issued controversial threats against opposition leader Bobi Wine, who is disputing the outcome of the recently concluded general election against Museveni.
Fallout From Bobi Wine Threats
Muhoozi has faced widespread criticism after publicly threatening supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP) and suggesting that Bobi Wine should be “eliminated” if he failed to surrender to authorities.
Larry Madowo drew international attention to the remarks, criticizing the son of the Head of State.
“The son of Uganda’s president is tweeting about killing his father’s main challenger (who is in hiding).”
That post appeared to trigger Muhoozi’s sharp response, which included attacks on Madowo’s nationality and professional credibility.
Earlier Jabs at Kenyan Media
Before announcing the block, Muhoozi had mocked Kenyans during the online spat.
“I have found that some Kenyans like to talk a lot but run the fastest when kibokos start,” he wrote.
He also accused Madowo of pandering to Western audiences rather than representing African interests.
As scrutiny of Uganda’s post-election environment grows, Muhoozi’s continued use of social media to issue threats and attack critics is drawing alarm from civil sociey groups and international observers alike.
