Trump Says US Will Not Use Force on Greenland But Calls Acquisition a ‘Global Security Imperative’

Meta Description
Donald Trump has insisted the United States will not use military force to acquire Greenland, describing the Arctic island as vital to global security while arguing America has historically done more than enough for Denmark.

US President Donald Trump has reignited global debate over Greenland after declaring that while the United States will not use military force to acquire the Arctic island, it remains firmly committed to pursuing it as a strategic priority.

Speaking in a wide-ranging address, Trump framed Greenland as essential to global peace and security, arguing that America has historically shown restraint despite possessing overwhelming military power.

“We probably won’t get anything unless I decide to use excessive strength and force, where we would be frankly unstoppable,” Trump said.

“But I won’t do that. I don’t want to use force.”

The remarks come amid heightened international scrutiny following repeated suggestions from Trump that the self-governing territory, currently part of the Kingdom of Denmark, should fall under American control.

Trump sought to downplay fears of military intervention, stressing that the United States is merely seeking what he described as a modest and reasonable request.

“All the United States is asking for is a place called Greenland,” he said.

Trump Claims Historical Justification

The POTUS leaned heavily on historical precedent to support his argument, claiming the US had previously controlled Greenland as a trustee following World War II, before voluntarily returning it to Denmark.

“We already had it as a trustee, but respectfully returned it back to Denmark not long ago after we defeated the Germans, the Japanese, the Italians and others in World War II,” Trump stated.

He added that while America was powerful then, it is even more formidable today, a point he raised to emphasize restraint rather than intimidation.

“We were a powerful force then, but we are much more powerful now.”

Despite referring to Greenland as “a piece of ice, cold and poorly located,” Trump argued that its strategic value in the Arctic makes it indispensable to global security and future world order.

“It can play a vital role in world peace and world protection,” he said.

Trump concluded by portraying the request as minimal compared to decades of US military and economic support extended to its allies.

“It’s a very small ask compared to what we have given them for many, many decades.”
