President William Ruto has called his visit to Washington DC and his meetings with US President Donald Trump a historic step in the relationship between Kenya and the United States.
In a statement, Ruto said he was grateful for the warm welcome his delegation received and described the talks as productive. He said the discussions marked a new phase in the long partnership between the two countries, with both sides agreeing to work closely in key areas.
Ruto highlighted several commitments made during the visit. In health, Kenya and the US agreed to expand work on disease surveillance, primary healthcare and access to advanced medical tools. Ruto said these efforts are expected to improve services and help Kenya move toward universal health coverage.
On trade and investment, Ruto said the two governments took strong steps to grow new value chains, open more markets, support African manufacturing and create jobs. He added that the US expressed interest in investing in Kenya’s digital sector, infrastructure and clean-energy transition, which he said signals a new period of shared growth.
Ruto also pointed to new security cooperation. Both sides agreed to deepen support for stability in the Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes region, including work on counter-terrorism, maritime safety and conflict resolution. Ruto said the discussions confirmed that joint action between the two nations can strengthen regional peace.
The President praised Trump’s role in renewing focus on Kenya–US relations and said Kenya is committed to turning the Washington commitments into real benefits for its people. He added that Nairobi aims to build the partnership into one of the most important on the continent.
