Liverpool’s poor form worsened on Wednesday night as they were beaten 4–1 by PSV at Anfield, only four days after suffering a heavy defeat to Nottingham Forest. The back-to-back losses have pushed the club into its worst run since the 1953–54 season.
The team has now lost nine of its past 12 matches, including three straight defeats by a margin of three goals or more. Supporters left Anfield early for the second match in a row, and the mood inside the stadium reflected growing frustration and fear that the season is slipping away.
Liverpool fell behind early when Virgil van Dijk conceded a penalty, and PSV controlled the game with calm, sharp play. Dominik Szoboszlai briefly gave Liverpool hope with an equaliser, but PSV took charge again in the second half. Mistakes in defence, including a major error from Ibrahima Konaté, opened the door for two late goals from Couhaib Driouech. The loss equalled one of Liverpool’s heaviest home defeats in Europe.
The defeat came only days after Nottingham Forest had exposed similar problems at Anfield, leaving fans demanding answers. Slot had asked for a strong reaction after the Forest loss, but the team once again struggled with organisation, confidence, and simple defensive actions.
After the match, Arne Slot said he understood why his future was being questioned but insisted he still feels supported by the club’s leadership. He said he has been in difficult situations before and believes the team must find a way to stop the slide as soon as possible.
Players also showed signs of frustration. The team admitted that the level of performance is not acceptable for a club with Liverpool’s standards. They said they are determined to fight for improvement, even as pressure continues to rise.
Liverpool now face a crucial period, with both fans and the club hierarchy watching closely to see whether Slot can turn things around after two damaging defeats within days.
