Lewis Hamilton described his debut season with Ferrari as a “nightmare” after another disappointing weekend ended in early retirement at the São Paulo Grand Prix on Sunday.
The seven-time Formula 1 world champion was forced out of the race on lap 37, continuing a frustrating run of results that have left him still searching for his first podium with the Italian team.
“It’s a nightmare,” Hamilton said after the race. “The dream of driving for this amazing team has turned into a nightmare with the results we’ve had. We just have to fight through these hardships right now.”
Hamilton qualified 13th at Interlagos and endured a tough race, first making contact with teammate Carlos Sainz before suffering floor damage while attempting to pass Franco Colapinto. The incident forced him to retire midway through the race.
The Briton now sits sixth in the championship standings, 66 points behind teammate Charles Leclerc. Despite the struggles, Hamilton said he remains optimistic about the future. “I believe there is something extraordinary ahead,” he said. “I truly believe in this team and what we can achieve together.”
Meanwhile, McLaren’s Lando Norris continued his strong run, taking victory in Brazil to extend his championship lead to 24 points over teammate Oscar Piastri.
The 25-year-old Briton, who started from pole, delivered a composed performance to claim his fifth win of the season. After the race, Norris brushed off criticism about his title credentials.
“Just ignore everyone that talks crap about you and focus on yourself,” Norris said. “There are always people who try to bring you down, but I’ve learned to deal with that better this year.”
With three races remaining in the 2025 season, Norris now looks on course for his first world championship, while Hamilton and Ferrari face a long road to recovery.
