Kenyan musician and entrepreneur KRG The Don has publicly declared his intention to run for the Nairobi Senator seat in the 2027 elections. The announcement signals his entry into elective politics and marks a new chapter in his public life.
KRG The Don, whose real name is Stephen Karuga Kimani, shared a posts of himself with Siaya County Governor James Orengo on Instagram and other social media platforms hinting that that he will be competing for the seat come 2027. The November 2nd post was captioned “Governor Wa siaya Hon. James Orengo na Senator Wa Nairobi (2027) Hon.Stephen Karuga Kimani“. The post showed his close relation with experienced politicians which marks his entry into the kenyan political scene.

A run by KRG The Don adds a celebrity dynamic to the race for the Senator position, which tends to attract established political figures and party loyals. His commercial success and public profile mean he could draw attention and support from younger “Gen Z” voters and The creative industry stakeholders.
However, analysts note that linking entertainment fame with political credibility comes with risks. While celebrity candidates often attract attention, they also face the challenge of proving their policy understanding and building strong political networks to compete effectively.
KRG The Don will need to secure a party ticket, build grassroots support across Nairobi and compete with experienced politicians who already hold strong local structures. He must also present a clear policy agenda beyond the announcement stage.
The announcement marks KRG The Don’s transition from entertainment and entrepreneurship into the poitical fields. As the 2027 election approaches, his candidacy will likely attract attention and scrutiny in equal measure.
