Royal Media Services (RMS) Chairman Dr. S.K. Macharia on Thursday visited the home of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in Siaya County to pay his respects and comfort the family.
Dr. Macharia, a close friend of the Odinga family, visited Raila’s gravesite at Kang’o ka Jaramogi, where the late opposition leader was buried on Sunday. He was accompanied by Siaya Governor James Orengo and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga.
The media mogul later met Raila’s widow, Ida Odinga, at their Opada Farm home in Bondo.
“I came to pat Ida’s back on the loss of her husband, who was also my dear younger brother,” said Dr. Macharia. “We go back to Jaramogi’s time. He told me to look after Raila and Oburu, and we’ve been close ever since.”
He described Raila as a great man whose impact on Kenya would be remembered for generations. “The true scope of what Raila gave to this country will be known in the years to come. He gave a lot,” he said.
Ida Odinga thanked Dr. Macharia for his visit and long-standing friendship. “He has been with us through many journeys, and I thank him for standing with us. May God bless you abundantly,” she said.
Dr. Macharia has often spoken of Raila as a courageous and visionary leader who fought tirelessly for democracy. Following Raila’s death last week while receiving treatment in India, Macharia said, “My family and I have lost a great friend and a confidant. Kenya has lost a true patriot.”
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta also visited the Odinga family earlier in the week to offer his condolences.
