LISBON — Viktor Gyökeres’ agent has spoken out after Manchester United ruled out making a move for the Sporting CP striker this summer, despite his strong ties with new manager Ruben Amorim. The decision, reported in Portuguese newspaper Record, has left his representative, Hasan Cetinkaya, feeling “hurt.”
The Swedish international has been heavily linked with a Premier League return following an explosive season in Portugal. Gyökeres, 27, scored an impressive 66 goals in just 68 appearances under Amorim — now at the helm at Old Trafford. Yet, despite their past success together, Manchester United have made it clear they will not be making a bid.
United have already spent big this summer, adding Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford for £65 million and Matheus Cunha for £62.5 million. The club’s recruitment drive has focused on revitalising their attacking options after a disappointing season. However, according to the Manchester Evening News, Gyökeres will not be part of that rebuild.
As United shift their focus towards selling fringe players, Arsenal appear to be in pole position to land the former Coventry City man. Reports suggest a deal worth around £60 million could soon be finalised.
In Portugal, Record revealed that Cetinkaya is frustrated not just by United’s refusal to move for Gyökeres, but also by the handling of his other client, Victor Lindelöf. The Swedish defender left Old Trafford as a free agent this summer after eight years at the club. He had hoped to stay, especially under Amorim, having made 18 appearances since the Portuguese coach took over last November.

“Victor wanted to continue,” a source familiar with the matter told Record. “It’s unfortunate how things ended.”
United’s decision not to renew Lindelöf’s contract may have played into the agent’s growing unease. Cetinkaya, a prominent figure in European football circles, now finds both of his high-profile Swedish clients overlooked at Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are moving quickly. Mikel Arteta’s side are keen to bolster their attacking depth, and Gyökeres is seen as a perfect fit. His strength, work rate, and goal record make him an attractive prospect for a team looking to challenge for the Premier League title.
As of now, United are content with their choices. Amorim has reportedly turned his attention elsewhere as he continues reshaping the squad. While fans might have hoped for a reunion with the prolific Gyökeres, club officials are said to be prioritising other areas and trimming the wage bill before making further signings.
Still, the situation has stirred emotions. Cetinkaya’s reaction offers a glimpse into the often complex and personal world of football negotiations — where loyalty and past success do not always guarantee future opportunities.
