Robbie Williams Joins FIFA as Music Ambassador, Launches New Anthem ‘Desire’

SWITCH NEWS TEMPLATE

Robbie Williams has been appointed as FIFA’s first official Music Ambassador, with a new anthem set to debut at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. The song, titled Desire, will play for the first time at the tournament’s opening match on 14 June, bringing a fresh soundtrack to the world’s most-watched sport.

The announcement came during a video call between FIFA President Gianni Infantino and the British pop icon, known globally for his solo success and earlier days with Take That. In the call, Williams also confirmed he co-wrote the anthem with longtime collaborators Karl Brazil, Owen Parker, and Erik Jan Grob.

“Music and football bring people together like nothing else,” Williams said in an official statement. “Each has its own language, but both speak to the same emotions – passion, pride, connection.”

He continued, “Writing the official FIFA anthem is something I’ve dreamed about. I grew up watching those legendary walk-outs and dramatic moments – so I wanted to make something that gives fans goosebumps before kick-off.”

Italian superstar Laura Pausini is also featured on the track. Williams described her as having “the perfect voice,” and called it “a real honour” to collaborate with her.

A Song for the World

Desire is more than just a soundtrack for the Club World Cup. FIFA has confirmed it will serve as the official anthem for all future tournaments. The song’s debut marks the first major milestone in Williams’ new ambassadorial role, and signals FIFA’s push to blend sport and pop culture on a global scale.

“This is the world’s football song,” said Infantino, praising the track during the announcement. “It’s emotional, brilliant, and will set the perfect tone for our opening ceremony.”

He added that the involvement of two world-class musicians gives the event “an epic feel right from the start.”

Football Meets Fame

This isn’t Williams’ first time blending music and sport. He is co-founder of Soccer Aid, the annual charity football match that has raised millions for UNICEF and features celebrities and former pros alike. His deep ties to the game made him a natural choice for the role.

“I’ve lived my life between stadiums and stages,” Williams said. “This brings both worlds together in a way that feels truly special.”

The Club World Cup 2025 will be hosted in the United States and is expected to draw record-breaking audiences. With global giants like Inter Miami CF, Real Madrid and Al Ahly FC taking part, anticipation is already high — and now, the soundtrack is set.

Whether Desire becomes as iconic as previous FIFA anthems remains to be seen. But with Robbie Williams at the mic and football fever building, the stage is set for something memorable.
