Eddie Butita

Kenyan comedian and actor, Eddie Butita, with over 355K subscribers on his YouTube channel, surprised his fans on Monday, June 24 when they discovered his channel had disappeared.

We took a sneak peek for ourselves and noted Eddie Butita’s channel (the verified one) was nowhere to be seen and could only locate a channel by his name then with 44 subscribers that had his previous profile photo with the channel bio reading: “I have lost my channel subscribe to my channel.”

The channel has two videos with the first one containing his statement rejecting the finance bill, with Sauti Sol and Nyashinski’s song Tujiangalie, featuring as the soundtrack.

Interestingly, Butita recently spoke out against the Finance Bill 2024 after receiving criticism for not doing so sooner. He took to Instagram to address the issue directly, saying, “I’ve been criticized for not publicly sharing my stance on the Finance Bill 2024. Let me address this directly and shed light on the recent events.”

After making this statement, Butita faced further criticism for not joining protests against the Finance Bill 2024. Many protesters, particularly from the Gen Z generation, accused him of being too close to the state, especially after he participated in President William Ruto’s state visit to the United States in late May. During the visit, Butita was part of President Ruto’s delegation and mingled with global stars, including show host Steve Harvey.

“All said and done, it is time to publicly make my position official. I, Eddie Butita, #RejectFinanceBill2024. It is time to listen. We cannot be all wrong. Hayaa basi, Gen Z nitafutieni t-shirt kali nireport kwa ofisi.” Eddie Butita

Butita said he recognised the frustrations felt by many Kenyans with the current system and stressed the need for a proper structure to ensure effective representation of voices. He noted that leaders lose touch with those they represent, resulting in the current situation.

Although he admitted that he had avoided taking political stands in the past, Butita felt compelled to speak out now, stating, “Over the years, I have shied away from making political stands, but I agree this is not a political moment. With my status, my silence is not warranted. It ‘creases.'”

“The Finance Bill, as it stands, is not okay. I played a role and submitted my concerns and will do it again when needed because I am a citizen and a businessman. I want the best for my countrymates, family, friends, and colleagues.” Butita, expressing his concerns about the bill, said.

He concluded his statement with a clear rejection of the bill: “All said and done, it is time to publicly make my position official. I, Eddie Butita, #RejectFinanceBill2024. It is time to listen. We cannot be all wrong. Hayaa basi, Gen Z nitafutieni t-shirt kali nireport kwa ofisi.”
