Namibia pulled off a stunning upset, defeating Tunisia 1-0 with Deon Hotto’s header in the 88th minute.
Muzeu, the architect behind Brave Warrior’s historic victory, came in from the bench to snatch the game away from The Carthage Eagles, a team known for its impenetrable defence.
The unexpected victory marked Namibia’s first-ever win in the tournament, leaving Tunisia with a challenging path to the last 16.
Mali’s Commanding Performance Sees Off South Africa
Mali kicked off their AFCON campaign with a convincing 2-0 victory over South Africa, despite Bafana Bafana dominating the first half.
Captain Hamari Traore and Lassine Sinayoko scored in the second half, securing a strong start for Mali in Group E.
Traore tapped in his goal after Sekou Koita’s well-struck freekick hit the crossbar and bounced outwards, with the Malian quick of his mark and way ahead of South Africa’s defenders.
Sinayoko then took advantage of yet another defensive lapse from South Africa after building from the back resulting in gifting Mali the ball in their half midway through counter-attacking.
South Africa almost took the lead from a penalty only for Percy Tau to send the ball over the bar, much to the distress of Bafana Bafana fans.
Bertrand Traore’s Last-Minute Heroics Seal Burkina Faso Win
Burkina Faso secured a 1-0 victory against Mauritania, with Aston Villa’s Bertrand Traore delivering the decisive blow in added time.
Coach Amir Abdou cut a frustrated figure following the late penalty brought a triumphant start for Burkina Faso in Group D and lost him three valuable points from their opener.
