Former Miss World Contestant Dies Aged 26

Former Miss World competitor Sherica D’Armes, who proudly represented Uruguay in the 2015 Miss World pageant, has tragically died at the young age of 26.

According to US media reports, Sherica lost her battle with cervical cancer on October 13 despite having just finished a demanding treatment plan that involved chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

De Armas, being 18 years old at the time, participated in the 2015 Miss World pageant in China. De Armas was one of the youngest competitors in the 2015 Miss World pageant yet she came in second. Only six 18-year-olds, including her, participated. She stated to the media at the time that it was her dream to take part in the competition.

After competing for Miss World, she opened her own makeup and beauty salon in Montevideo, Uruguay. According to reports, Sherika De Armas also spent time working with the Pérez Scremini Foundation, a nonprofit that supports children with cancer.

Not only in her own Uruguay but also throughout the pageantry community, her premature passing has cast a pall of sadness. Many well-known people, including other actresses, have indicated how deeply saddened they are by the news of her departure.

De Armas’ relatives and friends have shared their memories of her on social media in the wake of the news of her passing. Carla Romero, the reigning Miss Universe Uruguay, uploaded pictures of herself with De Armas and called her one of the “most beautiful women.”
