Fire Claims More Than 60 Lives in Johannesburg

At least 60 people have been reported dead and 43 others injured after a fire broke out at a five-storey building in Johannesburg, early this morning.

Emergency responders are working to put out the fire, reports indicate that the cause of the deadly fire is still unknown. Through a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, the emergency services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi stated that numerous patients are receiving treatment right away, while others have been taken to hospitals.

According to Robert Mulaudzi, the fire that destroyed the structure at the intersection of Albert and Delvers streets began at 01.30 a.m. Local media reports indicate that at least 50 people are being treated for injuries and the aftermath of smoke inhalation after the incident.

The  City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services Firefighters evacuated the building and the cause of the early morning fire is still being investigated.
