Two people have been confirmed dead after being slain by suspected Al-Shabaab attackers. The lorry driver and his co-driver had their throats slit in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
According to Gabriel Kioni, Lamu West County Commissioner, the lorry was ambushed between 6:30 and 7:00 a.m. This gruesome attack happened along the Lamu-Witu-Garsen road near Lango La Simba area.
“I can confirm that two people, a driver and the co-driver of a lorry have been killed at Lango La Simba this morning. Their bodies have been taken to Mpeketoni Sub-County Hosptital. Investigations are on.”

However, further reports indicate that the attackers also burnt eight houses and Salama Redeemed Gospel Church on Monday night. Between 8:30 and 11:00 p.m. around 30 to 60 people are reported to have raided Salama Village in Lamu West.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported. Unfortunately, the villagers suffered immeasurable loss as the attackers stole valuable household items and livestock too. Most residents of Salama Village were moved to IDP camps prior to the attack because of the resurgence of Al-Shabaab attacks in Lamu County.
Pastor Peter Muthengi of Salama Redeemed Gospel Church decried his loss and beseeched the government to take quick action in combating these terrorists.
“I had speakers, chairs and many other items inside my church, all of which have been reduced to ashes. I lost property worth Ksh. 300,000. I appeal to the government to find a paermanent solution to the insecurity incidents in this place. We’re tired of these recurrent attacks.”

Moreover, it is also reported that the attackers tried raiding a GSU camp in Pandanguo area. Despite their efforts, they met great resistance from the officers that were in the camp.
