The biggest music award ceremonies in the region recognized some of Africa’s best artists most especially in the region. This year the awards were mostly taken by bongo artists. Kenya had a few nominations and even fewer wins.
Bien won the EAEA People’s Choice songwriter of the Year. He was nominated alongside, Alikiba, Mbosso, and Barnaba. Khaligraph Jones had a number of nominations, including Album of the Year which was won by Mbosso, and best male artist which was by Diamond. Kate Actress was also nominated for the EAEA People’s choice film star of the Year.
Kenyan music has recently been getting recognized globally with artists like Sauti Sol having world-wide tours in Europe and America.
Afrobeats, Bongo and Amapiano have managed to have great global recognition with some of the artists who sing the specific music genre getting prestigious awards like the Grammys that has been won by artist like Burna Boy and having epic music collaborations that make hits and reach the Billboard charts like One dance by Wizkid and Drake.

Kenyan music content has in the past been under serious scrutiny with Ezekiel Mutua and media personalities in radio and TV. Kenyan musicians cried foul and accused media personalities and DJ’s for not supporting them by not playing their music.
In return, the media personalities and DJ’s said that the quality of the Kenyan music is bad and low quality in video, lyrics and audio.Kenyan music have been banned before for promoting wrong concepts like the song Takataka.
