Ringtone Charged With Assaulting Sudanese Nationals

Renowned Kenyan gospel artist, Alex Apoko also known as Ringtone was charged at the Kibera Law courts on Tuesday, July 25, with assaulting five Sudanese nationals and damaging property worth Ksh 5,000.

When they appeared before Kibera chief magistrate, Ringtone together with other five men, Samson Onunga alias Kazola, Victor B Maringa, Kevin Nyaoke, Geoffrey Mose and Brian Jumba, denied the several charges of assault and malicious damage to property levelled against them by office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The six were charged with assaulting five Sudanese nationals namely, Kongkong Paulino, Gabriel Paulino, John Paulino, Stephen Gatwech and Chuang Emmanuel with bodily harm on July 21, at Bomas of Kenya, Muiru Gardens, Lang’ata.

In count two, the six accused persons were also charged with unlawfully damaging the chairs valued at Ksh 5,000 belonging to the Kongkong family. It is not yet clear why Ringtone and his co-accused assaulted the Sudanese nationals and damaged their chairs.

Through their lawyer, they pleaded for lenient bond terms and were released on a cash bail of Ksh 50,000 and a surety of the same amount.
