WhatsApp has introduced an update that allows users to start chats with unknown numbers without having to save them to their contact list.
WhatsApp is a Meta-owned messaging platform and its latest update is a sigh of relief from its users. The feature was made available for lucky testers of Whatsapp’s Beta Program. It is now readily available for users of both the iOS and Android phones.
One only needs to go to their contact list, hit the search button and type the number they want to text. WhatsApp will search outside their contacts and then the contact will show up. Then they will need to tap the ‘chat’ button to start the conversation.
Before this update, the users of WhatsApp had limitations when trying to start a chat with someone new. The only allowance was chatting with someone who wasn’t saved in your contact list but had to be a member of a group you’re a part of.
The new update is a move to increase the privacy of the user. This is because now one doesn’t have to save the unknown person’s number for brief contact and then forget to delete it. Therefore, their profile pictures will no longer be exposed to people one doesn’t want them exposed to.

The update comes after the messaging platform revealed it’s working on a feature to set up usernames. One would be able to search for any WhatsApp user by typing in their username and contact them. This feature is closely similar to its rival platform, Telegram.
The feature would be an added advantage to business owners. Customers would easily access the businesses they wish to reach out to privately and protect their contact details.
While Meta upgrades its features and applications, Elon Musk does the same thing. Elon Musk announced the rebrand of Twitter from using the bird sign to X. The rebrand comes a few weeks after the launch of Twitter’s rival app, Threads, by Meta.
