American supermodel and TV personality Gigi Hadid was arrested for drug possession during her recent trip to the Cayman Islands.
Gigi Hadid, and her friend, Leah Nicole McCarthy were on a trip to the Caribbean when she was arrested and detained by Customs and Border Control officers who checked her luggage and discovered a small amount of marijuana. Hadid had traveled with her friend from the United States on a private plane.

According to a report by the officials, the marijuana was discovered when the Customs and Border Control Police were conducting their routine check of visitors’ luggage.
During the search of their luggage, ganja and utensils used for the consumption of ganja were found in the luggage of both passengers

The Marl Road stated that they were officially charged two days after their arrest. They were charged with “suspicion of ganja importation and importation of equipment used for the consumption of ganja.” Later, they stood before a summary court, entered a guilty plea, and consented to pay a fine amounting to more than $1000.
The 28-year-old model was reportedly identified by the officials using her official name which is Jelena Noura Hadid. Reports from the model’s legal representative indicated that Gigi Hadid had legally purchased the marijuana back in New York using a medical license, clearing her of the charges.

Although the Cayman Islands legalized medical marijuana in 2017, they continue to have severe restrictions against its recreational use. For a first offense, a year in jail or a fine may be imposed for possessing up to 12 grams of marijuana in the island. The model has posted a picture on her Instagram page that showed her enjoying the vacation alongside her friend captioned ‘All is well that ends well’.
