KPLC responds to its worker being allegedly beat up by an MP

Kenya Power is working with security agencies to pursue the Kitui East MP, Nimrod Mbai, who allegedly assaulted their worker.

KPLC General Manager, Human Resources and Administration, Cecil Kalungu, said they are working with security agents to seek justice. According to a statement released by Cecilia, the security agents vowed to ensure that justice for their employees is served.

In addition to justice, the agency mentioned that it would help Kenya Power with recommendations on how to protect its employees. This is to offer an assurance of safety to the employees while they perform their duties.

“We assure employees that the company will provide the necessary support and security when needed to thank employees for the great work that they are doing,” Cecilia said.

The legislator broke the news yesterday after a video of him allegedly assaulting a Kenya Power officer leaked to the public. The claim is that he assaulted the officer when this worker threatened to cut him off the electricity.

Mbai claimed that this officer had removed the electricity poles that led up to his house in Kitengela, Kajiado County. This officer had been accompanied by two KPLC security and two police officers. Though allegedly assaulted, the officer did not retaliate or hit the MP.

” I was fighting back the people who invaded me. I had to fight back. The viral video you are talking about has been edited to only show me fighting back,” the MP said.

In response to the removal of electricity poles, the officer said that the connections were illegally installed, warranting their removal.
