The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is in the process of reclaiming a 26-acre piece of land that was purportedly stolen from Nyabola Girls Secondary School in Rachuonyo, Homa Bay County.
According to a reliable source within the commission, individuals associated with the Kenya Lake Conference of the Seventh Day Adventists (SDA) of the South Kenya Lake Field allegedly acquired the land through fraudulent means and transformed it into an SDA church premises.
“EACC on Friday, May 26, oversaw a boundary determination exercise undertaken on the site by Rachuonyo Sub-County Surveyor in the presence of EACC Officials from the Commission’s South Nyanza regional office and the Land Registrar,” said the source.
The land in question, previously registered under the name of the now-defunct South Nyanza Council (the precursor to the current County Government of Homa Bay), is reported to contain residential apartments in addition to housing the Nyabola Girls Secondary School. The school, established in 1968 as a public institution, has since undergone conversion into a private school and was subsequently renamed Nyabola SDA Secondary School.

In a significant step towards resolving this matter, the EACC, in collaboration with the Rachuonyo Sub-County Surveyor and the Land Registrar, conducted a boundary determination exercise on the site on Friday, May 26. EACC officials from the commission’s South Nyanza regional office were present during the exercise, which aimed to establish the accurate boundaries of the land.
As the investigations continue, the EACC remains dedicated to upholding ethical standards and combating corruption across Kenya. The recovery of the 26-acre piece of land represents a crucial victory in the ongoing fight against fraudulent land acquisitions, safeguarding public assets, and preserving the integrity of educational institutions within the region.
