Rashford scored the winner against Brentford as Newcastle hammered West Ham 5-1 in the Premier League last night to remain third in the league ahead of Manchester United.
The Red Devils had to settle for a 1-0 win over Brentford at Old Trafford as they regained fourth spot on the table, with goal difference separating them and Newcastle, who are both on 53 points.
Manchester United dominated the opening exchanges before Marcus Rashford scored the all-important goal to take them back to fourth in the Premier League. After three matches without a win, United had dropped to fifth on the log.
Scott McTominay was a standout performer on the night and had a glorious chance to give United the lead in the 20th minute, but his effort sailed just over the bar. Eight minutes later, Rashford from a well-placed header assist by Sabitzer found the back of the net.
David De Gea played a pivotal role in the win, especially after having to deal with a one-on-one situation against Schade after the Brentford player was slipped in by Ivan Toney.
April will undoubtedly not be an easy month for United as they play relegation-threatened Everton next, a team who have shown they can be difficult to beat under Sean Dyche. In the same month, Brighton & Hove Albion will face Ten Hag’s team in the FA Cup semifinal at Wembley, as well as both legs of their Europa League quarterfinal against Sevilla and visits to Nottingham Forest and Tottenham in the Premier League before finishing the month against Aston Villa.

Newcastle Thrash West Ham 5-1 at the London Stadium
Newcastle have been and are still proving to be a formidable opponent as they stake their claim on a top-four finish since the 2002/03 season when they finished third behind the league winners Arsenal and Manchester City. United were fourth that season. Eddie Howe’s team are in a battle for the third spot with Manchester United. They faced a West Ham side that is under the pressure of relegation with goal difference being their only reason above the drop zone.
In just 6 minutes Newcastle found the back of the net from excellent play down the wing by Allan Saint-Maximin. His left foot cross into the box found an unmarked Callum Wilson for the lead.
In the 13th minute the Magpies extended their lead after Joelinton’s goal was eventually awarded by VAR. The striker rounded off Lukasz Fabianski.
Jacob Murphy pounced on Nayef Aguerd’s sloppy touch after Fabianski’s throw, squared the ball to Wilson, who tapped in his second of the game.
As Newcastle scored their fourth goal, Fabianski again had a part, this time sprinting out of his area to clear a long pass. He mishandled the ball, though, and it fell into Alexander Isak’s path, who lobbed it over Fabianski and into the goal.
In front of a nearly deserted London Stadium, Joelinton beat two defenders before slamming the ball in at the far post to finish the thrashing.
With a game remaining, the win puts Newcastle three points ahead of fifth-place Tottenham.
