1-0 the final score as FKF Cup defending champions Gor Mahia are eliminated by Kakamega Homeboyz at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega
Gor Mahia faced a familiar face on Sunday in the FKF Cup fixture. Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Patrick Odhiambo had served as an assistant coach at Gor Mahia from 2019 to 2022 before being named as head coach for the western-based club on February 13, 2023.
Speaking after the win, the Kakamega Homeboyz coach said, “We deserved to beat Gor Mahia and I’m happy that we have progressed to the quarters. We dominated the game and missed chances, but I’m happy that we have qualified for the quarters and will prepare for it.”
The hosts played with the intent to win from the onset and were rewarded for their intensity through Moses Mudavadi’s goal in the 56th minute.

In the other FKF Cup fixture, Kariobangi Sharks beat FKF Division One side Equity FC 1-0 at the Nyayo National Stadium. Paul Odhiambo scored the only goal just 10 minutes into the fixture from a Geoffrey Onyango cross.
Following the win, Kakamega Homeboyz have been scheduled to face Kariobangi Sharks in the FKF Cup Quarterfinals. Kakamega Homeboyz and Kariobangi Sharks have now advanced to the quarterfinals, joining Tusker, Ulinzi Stars, and Sofapaka who qualified on Saturday.
