Effective ways to keep the cold at bay this rainy season

The rainy season increases susceptibility to getting touches of flu and cold. However, taking precautions will ensure you steer clear of catching a cold.

The rainy season comes with a lot on its plate. The need to stay indoors, a cuddling partner perhaps, movie marathons, or if luck is not on your side, then a hard raging cold. Even though rainy seasons do not necessarily cause colds, exposure to cold weather increases your chances of contracting the virus easily.

Major causes of a cold include;

  • Inhaling the droplets containing the virus from an already infected person who either coughs or sneezes
  • Touching your nose, mouth, or eyes after you get into contact with the virus

 The most familiar symptoms of a cold include;

  • Sneezing,
  • Coughing,
  • Sore throats,
  • Sinus pains,
  • Sore throats,
  • Chest discomfort

Colds and flu do not have a cure, but with the right tips, you can save yourself from contracting the virus.

Here are tips that will help keep the cold away this rainy season:

  • Time for some honey…

Studies have shown that using honey is more effective in treating respiratory infections. Honey contains antioxidants that help fight infections. Honey also helps to reduce throat inflammation and relieve throat pain.

How to use;

Put one teaspoon of honey into your cup of tea or water.

  • Eat more fruits and vegetables

Your body needs a little boost of immunity once you have a cold. What better way to get yourself a healthy immune system than by eating a ton of fruits and vegetables? As you get ‘leafy’ remember that eating a balanced diet with help reduce the chances of catching a cold.

  • Get some rest

If you feel a cold coming on, get plenty of rest. This will help your body fight off the cold virus early enough. Studies show that people who have less than 5 hours of sleep per night have a greater risk of developing the common cold than those who slept for more than 7 hours per night.

  • Get a lot of vitamin D

Well, the sun is the most efficient source of vitamin D. The rainy season may however present little to no sun, so it is advised that you take vitamin D supplements.

  • Stay dry

Avoid getting wet during this rainy season. This will help retain a warm body temperature and reduce the risk of contracting a cold virus

  • Avoid stress

High-stress levels compromise your body’s immune system. It is important to make sure that you stay away from stress or any situations that can lead you to stress.

  • Stay away from the alcohol
