Nairobi Regional Police Commander Adamson Bungei has clarified that the Azimio coalition failed to go after the proper strategy of their mass action demos.
Bungei’s statement came after Coalition’s Executive Council Chairman Wycliffe Oparanya and other leaders under the same Umbrella informed the Nairobi police commander of their plan to hold protests in the City on Monday and Thursday next week.
Oparanya said the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya intends to present petitions to county Commanders, sub-county commanders, and all other State offices countrywide as part of the processions.
“This is a notification to enable the police to provide enough security to the protesters. By this notice, kindly provide enough security,” Nairobi Regional Police Commander Adamson Bungei said.
Bungei also said that the notification should have been addressed to the area Officer Commanding Station (OCS).
“In this matter related to the issue of Monday’s protest, it has to be served to the police station. We are not saying that we refuse to pick or not. We are guided by the law that this document should be delivered to the Officer Commanding Station,” Bungei added.
On Tuesday, March 21, the opposition leader Raila Odinga stated that the coalition will be pressing individual charges against the police officers who injured and disfigured their supporters during the peaceful protest.

He marked out Nairobi Police commander Adam Bungei for instituting orders that led to the chaos that was seen during Monday’s demonstrations where it alleged two people lost their lives.

“The brutality witnessed on Monday does not belong to this country. The citizens were demonstrating on provisions of the constitutions as they had given notice,” the opposition leader Raila Odinga said.
“We will bring new tactics on board to press charges against Bungei at both local and international levels. We will make Bungei and his coordinators understand that days, when regimes would brutalize citizens with impunity, are over,” he added.
