The US ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman said that the US will proudly continue to advocate for the rights of the LGBTQ community in Kenya.
Making this announcement on Tuesday, March 14, after meeting with the members of the community for a week, Meg said that the US is at the forefront of advocating for the human rights of the LGBTQ (Lesbians, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer) community.
“Over the past week, my team and I met with the LGBTQI+ community and stakeholders to support the human rights of LGBTQI+ persons. The U.S. proudly advances efforts to protect LGBTQI+ persons from discrimination & violence and will continue to stand up for human rights and equality,” Meg Whitman said.

Her announcement came contrary to what she said earlier; that the US government had no intentions whatsoever of promoting the LGBTQ agenda in Kenya. On March 3 while in Kajiado County, Meg said that the US government acknowledges and respects the decision made by the supreme court.

President William Ruto has spoken about the sensitive matter, saying that as much as he respected the independence of the supreme court, he will not take their ruling lying down. He said that Kenya, is a God-fearing nation and same-sex marriage is against the religious and moral beliefs of its citizens.
All this controversy comes after the Apex court gave a ruling that allows the LGBTQ community to register a recognized lobby group in Kenya, on Friday, February 24.
