Benson Omalla scored the consolation goal for Gor Mahia as Douglas Kibet and Daniel Otieno give Mathare United a much-needed win in the FKF-PL fixture
The last time Gor Mahia lost a fixture in the FKF Premier League was on January 4 against KCB. Since then K’ogalo have been on a good run of form regaining their lead in the league standings.
Mathare United’s win ends an eight-match winless run against Gor Mahia; the last time the Slum Boys beat Gor Mahia was in October 2017.
The fixture between Gor and Mathare was played at the Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani. Douglas Kibet scored in the eighth minute and it took Gor Mahia 60 minutes of play to get the equalizer. Douglas Otieno, a fromer Gor Mahia player came off te bench to score the winner eight minutes from time, their fifth win all season. Otieno has five goals in this campaign.
Speaking after the fixture, Gor Mahia coach Jonathan McKinstry noted, “We were a bit flat. Mathare defended crosses well and today I don’t think our quality was good. We just have to pick ourselves up from this disappointing defeat.”
Matahre are now four points clear of the drop zone with 16 points in as many games. Gor Mahia remian top of the league with 37 points, 4 ahead of Nzoia Sugar and KCB (joint second)
