One person died on the spot and three were seriously injured after a head-on lorry collision at the Tana bridge along the Makutano-Makuyu road in Kirinyaga.
According to the nearby residents, said on Tuesday, January 24 that the accident led to a traffic snarl-up which lasted until around 3 am East African Time.
Mwea-West Sub-County Police Commander Wilson Koskei confirmed the incident and stated that three people who sustained serious injuries were rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
“The two lorries were traveling in opposite directions, one was heading to Nairobi from Meru, and the other was heading towards Makutano,” said Wilson Koskei.
In addition, Mwea-West Sub-County Police Commander said one of the lorries on reaching the bridge, left its lawful lane and encroached to the opposite lane leading to the accident. One of the drivers died on the spot, the other passengers sustained serious injuries.

“The body of the deceased was taken to Murang’a Hospital mortuary awaiting identification,” Koskei said in a statement.

At the scene, the police commander on the other hand urged motorists to follow traffic rules when on the road.
