“He reported that he proceeded to NCBA bank in Thika and withdrew Sh2.3 million. He then went to ABSA Bank Thika Branch and withdrew Sh1.5 million, plus another KSh 1.5 million from consolidated bank within the town,” stated the report.
According to Daily Nation, Matthew hid the money beneath the front passenger seat of his Nissan March registration number KCX 584R, then drove to a public toilet near Kenya Power and Lighting Company(KPLC) Thika depot, right opposite St Patrick Catholic church.
He returned from the toilet to find his car window shattered and all the money he withdrew stolen.
Thika-based detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are currently investigating the incident.
According to preliminary investigations, the thugs may have been tipped off by one of the bank tellers from whom the victim withdrew the money. As a result, they surreptitiously followed him and stole the cash during the few minutes he left it unguarded.
