The Kenya International Theatre Festival (KITFest) brings international theatrical performances to Kenya in order to inspire Kenyan artists.
At the same time, it serves as a showcase for Kenyan theatre to the rest of the world.
The annual festival returned this year, running from November 1 to November 13. It was, as expected, a learning experience for theatre enthusiasts who were also treated to masterclasses from Erick Wainaina. It was an enriching experience for both audiences and thespian talents.
During the closing ceremony, Festival Director Fedari Oyagi told Switch Media that it was difficult to choose which key performances fans should look forward to because they were all so good.

International and local theatrical performances were plentiful, including a child’s festival where children can come together, be trained, and learn theatre and a family day with performances based on bible stories.

A good number of international performances were from South Africa, United States, Spain, and Egypt.
Jika Performing Arts College in South Africa had a performance titled Barberton Project on November 6, while Scena Theatre in the United States also had something special planned for the festival, a stage drama called Report to an Academy.

China also hosted a cultural evening known as a theme night. According to Oyagi, the slot’s goal is to share the country’s culture through cuisine and art.
Among the many exciting acts were Mufasa Poet, Origins of Mankind, Woodcreek School, Sarakasi, David Mulwa Production, Chemichemi players, and Millaz Productions Kenya, who filled the auditorium twice during the closing ceremony.
Oyagi, the festival’s director, is pleased that the annual event has survived the effects of Covid-19, noting that KITFest responded to the outbreak in a productive way, trying and testing out different dynamics, which “ultimately made the festival richer and wealthier.”
