Fafi MP Salah Yakub’s suggests that the presidential term extension to be scrapped and instead be capped to 75 years age limit.
According to the proposal the two term limit is limiting. The 75 years age limit will give a president time to deliver on their manifesto and make impact on his/her tenure.
He made the statement as reported by Nation, while distributing relief food in Garissa.
“We want to tell all Kenyans that the limit on two terms should be relooked. We want it changed to an age limit where when one gets to 75 years, he or she can not contest.
We will come up with an amendment Bill to try and change this because we want the requirement to be on age limit and not terms. If a president is doing a good job then he or she should not be limited by terms,” he added.
He further went on to confirm that a section of UDA lawmakers who he would not reveal their names were having closed door discussions.
According to him, the lawmakers will soon sit, draft the amendments bill and forward it to parliament.
With this proposal the sitting president Ruto who is 55 years will have a chance to vie in 2027, 2032 and 2037, giving him four terms of presidency.
It comes barely three months since the hotly contested general elections.
Also it comes as a surprise to Kenyans since the Kenya Kwanza team had accused former president Uhuru Kenyatta of trying to use BBI to extend his term.

However these sentiments have not been received well by Kenyans among them lawmakers.
“It is not surprising at all. We have always known that it is the desire of President Ruto to be a life president like his friend Yoweri Museveni,”Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi stated
“This is madness of Kenya Kwanza will come to an end very soon. They are talking about many things but once their minds settle they will realize that they have work to do and stop all monkey business they have been taking the country through in the last two months.” National Minority Chief Whip Junet Mohammed dismissed the claims.
Controversial Lawyer Miguna Miguna termed the proposal as a move to make Ruto a one term president and it was a cruel joke that did not have the possibility of passing referendum.
On social media this attracted attention of Ugandans who did not receive it well.
Ugandan journalist Gabriel Buule begged Kenyans not to allow the MPS to comprehend such an idea
Other Ugandans begged Kenyans not to get infected with hopelessness as this would end in regrets.
