Kajiado, Kenya; Kenya Commercial Bank-KCB Foundation has strategically donated foodstuffs and livestock feeds to more than six hundred fifty (650) vulnerable households in Kajiado.
During the media address after handing over the donations to the Kajiado County Governor Joseph Ole Lenku, Caroline Wanjeri from Kenya Commercial Bank Foundation said that the bank has had fruitful discussions with Governor ole Lenku on how to provide long-term solutions which will enable the pastoral farmers in Kajiado to fight against the occurring drought in the County.
Magnificently, she revealed that the bank is working hand in hand with the county government to see how they can provide loans to farmers to carry out farming activities.
“Our significant and solid plan is to work with Kajiado county farmers at large in order to make them feel at a better place by generating their own farming outputs,” said Wanjeri.
At a colorful handover, Governor Ole Lenku appreciated the move saying that his administration will closely work with other well-wishers who will come on board in order to give a helping hand during the harsh drought.
“Simply to the next level, it is our desire and commitment to start looking for long-term solutions now because this drought may take longer time than expected,” Governor Ole Lenku added to his statement.
On the other hand, Kajiado Governor noted that there is a need for farmers to be purely trained on how to plant-animal fodder because the demand is high, and appealed to other well-wishers who would like to bring in solid ideas in order to overcome the drought session.
In addition, Kajiado County drought risk coordination committee, over 100,000 households across the county are in need of food support while 400,000 livestock are also in need of livestock feeds.
Finally, most families are now forced to survive only on one meal per day as they watch their only source of livelihood die due to hunger.
