Humble beginnings of Susan Nakhumicha
She began her career as a procurement intern at the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) from September 2013 to December 2013, which is where her experience began.
From 2007 to 2013, Nakhumicha worked for Mission for Essential Drugs and Supplies as the purchasing manager before joining KEMSA.
Before being appointed procurement manager, she was employed at the same station as a warehouse operations officer.
Following her appointment as the procurement and logistics manager, Nakhumicha spent over two years—from January 2014 to June 2016—working for Nairobi Women’s Group.
She ran in 2021 for the position of Trans Nzoia women’s representative on a Ford Kenya Party, but Lilian Siyoi of the UDA defeated her. Susan was employed with the Global Programs for Research and Training at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) prior to her selection to the Cabinet on Tuesday, September 27 by President William Ruto.
Nakhumicha managed asset tagging, inventory management, and the policy-compliant disposal of inventory and equipment at UCSF. She also oversaw the acquisition of products, works, and services.
Before working at AAR Healthcare in Kisumu, the incoming health CS earned a diploma in health care management in 2006.
Later, in 2007, she enrolled at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture & Technology for a degree program in procurement and management. She completed a Master of Science in Procurement and Logistics program at the same university for her post-graduate studies in 2014.
She pursued her doctoral studies at JKUAT as well, earning a PhD in Business Management, Operations Management, Supply Chain Research, Procurement, and Logistics upon completion of her studies.
