Passengers faced delays at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and other Kenyan airports today Sunday, with the Kenya Airports Authority urging travellers to check directly with their airlines before heading to the airport.
KAA said some departing flights were experiencing delays but did not give a specific cause in its advisory issued in Nairobi.
The authority said it was working with aviation agencies, airlines and other stakeholders to keep airport operations moving and reduce disruption.
“KAA regrets the inconvenience caused and appreciates the patience and understanding of passengers and other airport users as the situation is addressed,” the authority said.
The advisory came amid reports of a go-slow involving staff linked to the Kenya Airports Authority and the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority. The reports said several flights scheduled to leave from JKIA and Wilson Airport remained on the ground for hours.
Some passengers reported being left waiting for updates on their departure times, adding to uncertainty at the airports.
Reports also indicated that access to parts of JKIA and Wilson Airport had been affected. Police were said to have been alerted as the disruption unfolded.
KAA, however, did not attribute the delays in its public advisory to industrial action. Instead, it asked passengers to contact their respective airlines for the latest information on flight status.
Travellers with flights scheduled for Sunday were therefore advised to confirm their departure times before making their way to the airport.
The situation remained fluid as aviation authorities and airlines worked to manage the disruption.
