As speculation swirled over the absence of key opposition figures at the launch of his presidential campaign platform, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka moved quickly to reassure supporters that the alliance seeking to challenge President William Ruto remains intact.

Speaking during the unveiling of his campaign agenda, Kalonzo said the decision not to invite his fellow United Alternative Government co-principals, Rigathi Gachagua, Martha Karua and Fred Matiang’i was deliberate and should not be interpreted as a sign of political disagreement.

Instead, he said, the event was intended to focus on his own policy platform before broader coalition engagements begin.

“I actually had to debate on whether to invite them, Rigathi Gachagua, Fred Matiang’i and Martha Karua, but I said maybe when I have sorted this issue of the flagship,” Kalonzo told supporters. “But for now, I know they are all watching.”

The remarks came as political activity continues to intensify ahead of the 2027 General Election, with opposition leaders increasingly positioning themselves for what is expected to be a fiercely contested race.

Kalonzo used the occasion to praise his allies and insist that the coalition remains united despite persistent claims of rivalry among its leading figures.

“Allow me to salute my co-principals in the United Alternative Government and to thank them sincerely for standing together as a strong team which has sworn to stand with Kenyans,” he said.

The former Vice President argued that unity remains the opposition’s greatest strength as it seeks to present itself as an alternative to the Kenya Kwanza administration.

“This team, I can assure you, will stand together until we liberate this country,” he added.

His comments reflect growing efforts by opposition leaders to counter suggestions that competing presidential ambitions could weaken their chances in 2027. While Kalonzo, Karua, Gachagua and Matiang’i have each continued to build their individual political profiles, they have repeatedly stated that they remain committed to working together under the United Alternative Government banner.

Kalonzo accused political opponents of hoping for divisions within the alliance, arguing that a split would benefit the ruling coalition.

“We know that the Kenya Kwanza administration’s only hope is that the United Alternative Government will split,” he said.

He went further, expressing confidence that a united opposition could unseat President William Ruto in the next election.

“Without any split, I can assure you that William Ruto is a one-term president,” Kalonzo declared to applause from supporters.

The launch of Kalonzo’s campaign platform marks another step in the opposition’s early preparations for the next presidential contest. Yet questions remain over who will eventually emerge as the coalition’s preferred candidate and how its leaders will navigate competing ambitions while maintaining a united front.
