Dorcas Gachagua has spoken publicly following a court ruling that awarded her husband, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, KSh50 million in damages over violations of his constitutional rights during the impeachment process.

In a brief message shared on her facebook page after the judgment, Mrs Gachagua thanked supporters who had stood by the family throughout the legal and political battle. She described the ruling as a moment of gratitude and faith.

“We thank everyone who has stood with us in prayers. Nothing is lost. We bless God for this judgment,” she said.

Her remarks came shortly after a three-judge bench delivered its decision on a case challenging aspects of the impeachment process that led to Mr Gachagua’s removal from office.

While the court upheld the impeachment itself, the judges found that some of Mr Gachagua’s rights had been violated during the proceedings. As a result, the court awarded him KSh50 million in compensation.

The ruling marked a significant chapter in one of Kenya’s most closely watched political disputes. Supporters of the former deputy president welcomed the decision, arguing that it affirmed concerns they had raised about the fairness of the process.

Critics, however, noted that the court did not overturn the impeachment and maintained that the constitutional process leading to his removal remained valid.

For the Gachagua family, the judgment appeared to bring a measure of relief after months of legal uncertainty. Dorcas Gachagua’s message focused less on politics and more on appreciation, reflecting on the support they received from allies, friends and members of the public.

The case is likely to remain a point of discussion in Kenya’s political landscape, particularly as leaders and supporters continue to interpret the implications of the court’s findings.

For now, the family says it is grateful for the outcome and the people who stood with them through the challenge.
