Comedian and activist Eric Omondi has been released on a personal bond after appearing in court, marking the latest turn in a case that has attracted widespread public attention.
Omondi walked free after the court granted his release, following submissions by a legal team led by Embakasi East MP and advocate Babu Owino. The decision means he will remain out of custody as the case proceeds through the judicial process.
Speaking outside the court, Babu Owino welcomed the ruling, describing it as a victory for due process and the rule of law. He maintained that his client would fully cooperate with the court while preparing his defence.
The comedian’s arrest had sparked debate across social media and within political circles, with supporters arguing that he was exercising his constitutional rights as an activist. Others insisted that authorities were entitled to investigate any alleged offences and allow the courts to determine the facts.
Omondi has become one of the country’s most visible activist figures in recent years, often using his platform to campaign on issues affecting ordinary Kenyans, particularly the rising cost of living and youth unemployment.
