Orange Democratic Movement party leader Dr. Oburu Odinga has publicly dismissed suggestions of political zoning discussions involving Martha Karua, stating that ongoing negotiations are strictly limited to the coalition between ODM and UDA.
Speaking on the matter, Dr. Oburu said the coalition has no interest in entering zoning arrangements with Martha Karua or her political allies.
He emphasized that any current discussions are internal and remain under negotiation within the ODM-UDA framework.
“We are not zoning with Martha Karua. I heard her also talking about zoning. Martha, we are not interested in zoning with you,” Dr. Oburu stated.
ODM-ODA Coalition Talks Intensify
The remarks come amid increasing political realignments ahead of Kenya’s future electoral strategies, with coalition-building becoming a key discussion point among major political players.
Orange Democratic Movement and United Democratic Alliance have recently been linked to ongoing consultations aimed at strengthening cooperation within government-aligned structures.
“You can zone with whoever you want. But we are zoning only for ourselves within the coalition of ODM and ODA. And these are still under negotiations.”
Dr. Oburu’s comments appear to draw a clear line between those talks and broader opposition coordination efforts associated with Martha Karua and other leaders outside the ODM-UDA arrangement.
While ODM and UDA discussions remain ongoing, Dr. Oburu’s statement suggests that any formal zoning agreements will be determined internally within the coalition rather than through broader opposition partnerships.
